Thousands of Jazz24 listeners voted for the songs they felt were the 100 best jazz songs of all time. Take Five, which was the first jazz single to sell 1 million copies, was the undisputed top choice, while Miles Davis’ So What (which was coincidentally recorded in the same year, 1959) was the clear No. 2. With a few exceptions, it appeared that when listeners looked to jazz vocalists, they preferred female artists that tugged at the heartstrings, while in most cases. those who preferred instrumentalists enjoyed swinging, memorable mid- to up-tempo hits. In large part, voters also seemed to focus on songs from the one or two most popular albums of a particular artist

This is a listing of Billboard Hot 100 chart achievements by decade. A decade for these achievements is defined as ten-year periods from years ending in '0' through years ending in '9'. Since the Hot 100 was first published in Billboard magazine in the issue dated August 4, 1958, the first decade of chart achievements ranges from that first issue through the last issue of 1969.
After You’ve Gone was at its most prominent as a tune in the years before the bebop era, so it is not surprising to find definitive versions created by giants of the early jazz and swing eras. Blues diva Bessie Smith offered a performance for the ages in 1927 (The Essential Bessie Smith), interacting effortlessly with an all-star band for a thoroughly assured performance. As for instrumental versions, Gene Krupa’s classic performance from 1941 (Uptown) features Roy Eldridge in a career-defining moment that ranks among the swing era’s most breathtaking displays of virtuosity. This album includes three takes of Armstrong’s classic rendition of After You’ve Gone, featuring his own New York-based larger ensemble of the late 1920s. For added contrast, one take features his singing in addition to his trumpet playing, while the other two takes are instrumental.
